EX-NEW live 2018

From 3 to 6 May 2018, Ex-New Contemporary Art Center presents for the first time a multiple platform dedicated to multi-disciplinary and trans-generational contemporary art. An event that brings together people and projects from different contexts, to generate a completely new one, in a transversal situation of fusion between art and design. It develops in 4 days + 1 of screenings, exhibitions, conferences, performances and guided tours dedicated to schools.
The concept takes shape around three main issues:

Is time really a limit, just like the place?

Can context and resources further limit the expressive potential of an artist and curator in the design and implementation of a project?

In a “unlimited” society, is it possible that the very concept of limit itself becomes a generator of thought?

On the one hand “Time is Love” presents itself as a multiple projection through which its creator, Kisito Assangni, proposes at each edition (the eleventh in this case) a new group of video artists. Neither the curator nor the artists are involved in installing of the exhibition, which from time to time reaches different places on a small budget. It is by nature an itinerant exhibition, migrant, nomadic, without links to a specific place. An underground exhibition, where the rules are almost completely lacking. “Time is Love” extends between repetition and the difference that takes shape from the context where it is located. Time is love, a title like a paradoxical manifesto, for an exhibition apparently without dialogue between guests (22 artists without any connection) and hosts (the organizers) but that succeeds in offering the viewer a series of reflections linked to contemporary global identity.

On the contrary, “Ora e Qui – Now and Here” aims to establish from the beginning a privileged channel of communication between artists, forced to collaborate and share; an almost utopian idea for our time. Ex-Filanda makerspace acts as a catalyst of resources for individual projects, which are created thanks to the contamination among artists who carry ideas, take shape with the support of 3D modelling experts on site, and become a finished product with the use of digital manufacturing equipment (3D printers, laser cutting, CNC). In each phase of the project, the active involvement of a selected group of high school students is foreseen for a continuous and fruitful exchange of stimuli and knowledge for the collective benefit. The challenge for all actors is to impose precise production constraints: limited timeframes and dimensions, use of experimental materials with low environmental impact (bioplastics based on hemp), exclusive use of the machines for digital manufacturing present within the Makerspace. “Now and Here” is born as an open model of research, like doing in becoming.
